NitraSense: Continuous and affordable insight into nitrate levels in ditch water and groundwater

Nitrate from fertilizers leaches into ditches and groundwater. Currently, water quality is measured manually - on average once a month - at a limited number of locations. As a result, it remains unclear where the pollution originates.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Through NitraSense, Fixeau is developing a sensor that continuously measures nitrate, conductivity, and temperature and performs self-calibration—eliminating the need for manual sampling or laboratory analysis. Measurement data is made available via the 'Mijn Fixeau' platform as real-time values and trends for both water managers and farmers.

BENEFITS

Cleaner water
Faster, more targeted identification of nitrate pollution sources.

More efficient fertilization
Reduced fertilizer waste and lower costs for farmers.

Better-informed policy
High-resolution measurement data for water boards and government authorities.
